How to say the zodiac signs in Spanish (Spain vs. Latin America)

Two Spanish sounds change depending on where you are, and they affect exactly two signs:

• Cáncer — KAHN-sehr in Latin America, KAHN-thehr in most of Spain (the c before e becomes a soft “th”).
• Piscis — PEE-sees in Latin America, PEES-thees in Spain (same rule, the c before i).

Everywhere else the pronunciation is the same. Two other sounds worth knowing: the g in Géminis is pronounced like an English h (HEH-mee-nees), and the j-style g in Sagitario gives you sah-hee-TAH-ryoh.

Note the written accents, too: only Géminis and Cáncer carry them. Signs people expect to be accented — Sagitario, Capricornio, Acuario, Escorpio, Piscis — take no accent mark at all.

The grammar point almost every guide misses

In English you say “I’m a Taurus.” In Spanish you drop the article:

The same holds for every sign: Soy Géminis, Es Escorpio, Somos Piscis. Two more quick rules: el signo (the sign) is masculine, so signs default to masculine agreement (un Leo, los Virgo); and in careful Spanish the sign names are common nouns, so they’re often written lowercase in a sentence (soy leo), even though you’ll see them capitalized everywhere in practice.
